When leaving the Warsaw airport, if you want to catch the bus into town, don’t follow the ‘coach’ signs- they lead you to the long distances buses. When I went through the doors at arrivals, there wasn’t clear signage- but I always say that when I don’t pay attention and put 2% effort into looking for things.
When you eventually make it to the peasant bus stop that is right outside the arrivals, you can purchase your ticket with card or cash on the bus from a machine- humourlessly placed in the middle of the bus. It turns into one of those crazy, spectacles of a Japanese game show where simpletons (me) try to do something very basic (buy a bus ticket), but then they throw in outlandish obstacles (a too long bus with an accordion middle, during rush hour, on a windy route, holding baggage, crowded to the max, with a heavy footed bus driver).
People with heavy feet should take offense.
GUILTY.
eat.
Someone recommended Zapiecek for authentic, cheap Polish food. After weeks of dreaming about fried pierogies, my tastebuds applauded when I finally placed my order. I decided not to drink so I got mulled wine with a shot of rum. They also had warmed beer and warmed Aperol on the menu, which I severely question.

The pierogies came with a “gravy” but it wasn’t so much liquidy as it was chunks of meat and I’m not complaining. I respect calling something gravy when it’s really just another meal chopped up into small pieces.
I also respect how whenever I dine alone, I end up seated where everyone is forced to interact with me, when all they want to do is avoid eye contact with the awkward chick who is alone. Single. All by herself. Partnerless. My chair seemed to be placed dead center of the only walk-through of the entire 2 floored restaurant. When people tried to shimmy past behind me, I swear they stop breathing and I couldn’t see them, but I felt like they didn’t know what to do with their hands. I bet they had them in front of their chests, slightly off to the sides, palms forward so they don’t accidently touch me- like being single is contagious.
There is also a nice buzzing sound for when orders are ready, which really cuts into my dehydration headache real nicely. Water cost extra, they wouldn’t give me tap water, so no I didn’t actively participate in fixing anything I planned on complaining about later.
The female waiters wear these colourful dresses with a gravity defying coloured pierogi print on it and it is just so fun. I was going to take a creep pic but I’m not a pedo so let’s move on from that.
When I get pan- fried pierogies I like it when the dough is soft with a substantial amount of crispy fried-ness to it. You won’t know unless you know. These pierogies were more crispy dough overall with a quick pan fry on the puffed out middle of it. Also, going back to the yum gravy, call me old fashioned but I quite enjoy sour cream with my rogs. The cool, freshness, outter dairy really complements the cooked, cheese inner dairy.
This restaurant also has really heavy glassware. The shot glass and mulled wine mug tested my carpel tunnel strength, but I do prefer it to really thin glasses where I feel like I can bite through the rim or cut my mouth on it.
Should I become a food critic? I do have an opinion on everything.
I also went to GOŚCINIEC, which is chain similar to Zapiecek and a food hall called FOOD TOWN w Fabryce Norblina where I got some delish Ukrainian food.
There was a cafeteria in the coworking space I was at and although the last picture looks very sad, I assure you it wasn’t. The plates at the cafeteria were massive! I exclaimed it loudly to literally everyone! They charged based on the weight of what you put on your plate. You’ve never seen me so floored by this novel concept. Look at the variety of sauces!

cheap.
Since I went to Warsaw to work remotely in the co-working space that is affiliated with my company, I didn’t have much time to see the sights. When I arrived in February, it became dark an hour earlier than in Amsterdam. So I wandered around in pitch black for a while and then the next morning before work I got up early to see everything in the light. I entered 0 museums, paid for 0 viewpoints- looking is free.

travel.
I scooted to Krakow via fast train for 33 euros, that I bought a couple weeks in advance. It was lovely on board, they gave me a small carbonated water bottle when I asked for still and the train arrived on time.
